What is Nutritional Therapy?

Food is fundamental...

Food affects how well your body functions now and in the future. Essential nutrients including protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals need to be provided by food for the body to function effectively. The body needs these essential nutrients to be supplied regularly and in the right amounts. Nutritional therapy works to identify what the body needs .

Evidence Based

Nutritional therapy uses an evidenced based approach to guide you to achieve the right balance of nutrients for health optimisation with food and supplements. It follows the functional medicine approach to develop a personalised well-being plan during several consultations in clinic. The number of sessions varies according to individual client needs, but a minimum of two appointments is usually recommended. The resulting health optimisation plan aims to provide  appropriate, exciting and scientifically based recommendations to promote health goals. It may include menu plans, recipes, shopping advice, lifestyle recommendations and a supplement plan.

Collaboration

Nutritional therapists work in collaboration with GPs and other healthcare professionals to support their client's best interests. Nutritional therapy is not recommended as a replacement for medical advice.

Collaboration also takes place with a wide range of alternative therapists depending upon the needs of the client. This practice works specifically with Walton Coaching & Hypnosis which is based at the same address.

Functional Medicine

Functional medicine is an approach which looks at the person as a whole - considering lifestyle factors, environment, family, medical history and diet to assess. It addresses the underlying causes of poor health, using a system-oriented approach looking largely at the interactions between and imbalances in the digestive, cardiovascular, nervous, endocrine & muscular skeletal systems of the body.

Functional medicine engages both the client and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership.

Testing

Laboratory tests may be used to provide additional information using private laboratories or the client's GP. Tests include comprehensive digestive stool analysis & parasitology, SIBO breath test, adrenal stress profile, comprehensive thyroid panel, blood & organic acid profiles and many more. Private laboratories used include Regenerus Laboratories, Invivo Clinical and Genova Diagnostics.

Professional Body

The professional body for nutritional therapy is BANT (the British Association for Applied Nutrition & Nutritional Therapy). My registration with BANT and with the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council) ensures that professional standards are maintained and requires that nutritional therapists follow the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and the BANT Professional Practice Handbook.
